Established in 1989, my dad and I bought the property June of 2011. We refurbished it with new paint, sanded and stained the hardwood floors, removed the small open closets, and completed many miscellaneous repairs. We furnished the Inn with high-end mattresses, luxury linens, armoires, antique furnishings, and flat screen televisions, and then reopened it in October of 2011.
We opened OTG Wine & Beer Bar in November of 2011, brought in 100+ year old front and back bar, all hand carved with beveled glass mirrors, installed unique ceiling fans, lots of wood and brick to make the atmosphere warm and inviting. Just how a neighborhood bar should feel! Cheers!
The building was built in 1926; it is one of the oldest buildings in old town Glendale and has quite a lot of charm with many romantic nooks and crannies. It was originally a furniture shop called "Brown's Furniture Store." We have been told by several locals that it has also been an insurance company, florist, and many other stores. In 1989 it was turned into a 10-room hotel/bed and breakfast. We spoke to the contractor who completed the conversion and he said he obtained the stamped tin ceilings and the sconces from the Sands Hotel, Las Vegas before they imploded it. Can you imagine the history those ceilings have? If only they could talk.
I'm Teresa, the Innkeeper and owner of the Inn and OTG Wine & Beer Bar. I have been in business for myself almost all my life. I owned and operated a daycare for several years after the loss of my first child. I have been a bookkeeper for multiple companies, and a real estate broker and mortgage loan officer for many years. I had dreamed of owning a bed & breakfast for the past 20 years. My passion has always been towards the hospitality industry. My first attempt at a bed & breakfast was lost in tragedy. Pete (my best friend, oh, and boyfriend) and I started to renovate an old dilapidated 6 room home in So. California and after 6 months into the renovation the house burned to the ground. Devastated, I thought that at that point a bed & breakfast was just not in the cards for me. After a year of mourning our loss my boyfriend and I decided to take a little weekend trip to Copper Mountain, Arizona, do a little hiking at Superstitious Mountain and catch an NFL game. It was suggested that we go check out Glitters in old town Glendale. We saw a little, tiny "For Sale" sign in the window of the Inn and that is where my story begins as an Innkeeper.
Pete and I love sports and travel. We try to attend all the summer Olympics; our first Olympics was in Greece. What a beginning. We've been together for almost 20 years and just enjoy life. Our motto is "Work hard so you can play hard." We just recently had our first grandbaby, so that is a great new adventure.
My dad is an entrepreneur and has many different businesses that he works and invests in; a couple here in Arizona, California, Washington and Oklahoma. He is extremely busy and also travels a lot.
